Habitat for Humanity, A Story of Hope

Purple Flower

Founded on putting God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity has been changing lives in local communities and worldwide since 1976 by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Over the past 39 years, Habitat has built or repaired over 1 million homes, serving more than 5 million people worldwide. Most recently this commitment to community service was focused in Charlotte, NC, where Duncan-Parnell and 95 of its employees, along with several customers and vendors, found themselves at the helm of a Habitat house build. The work began in February as two dozen Duncan-Parnell volunteers braved frigid temperatures to kick off the company’s first-ever Habitat for Humanity house build. Hot coffee and warm hearts fueled the team as they began Day 1 of framing and trussing on the home of future Habitat homeowner Emily and her two children. “It was heartwarming to work alongside Emily, who was putting in sweat equity, and amazing to see the progress of just one day of service,” said Duncan-Parnell Customer Service representative Tom Lucy. Week by week, as work continued on the house and more volunteers stepped in to help with siding, roofing, walls, windows, doors, and everything else in between, an empty lot was transformed into a new home. Approximately 1,728 man hours and over 370 lbs. of nails later, the house was completed at the end of March, and dedicated on May 2nd. The new owners have moved in and begun a new chapter in their lives.

This was Duncan-Parnell’s first venture in full house sponsorship and Mark Duncan, President, couldn’t be more pleased with all of the support Duncan-Parnell has received to date. “We are truly thankful to all our business partners for their kind sponsorships of coffee, lunches, and man-hours. First Financial, SunTrust Bank, Wells Fargo Insurance Services, BB&T, CNP Technologies, and Canon Solutions of America have demonstrated their alignment of relationships built on value.” George MacBain, Market President said, “We at BB&T are delighted to participate with Duncan-Parnell in this worthwhile effort of taking on this life-changing Habitat project.” Likewise, Bill Wainscott, Senior Account Executive of CNP stated, “CNP Technologies is honored by the opportunity to join Duncan-Parnell in giving back to our beautiful community.” Duncan-Parnell has been fortunate over the years in Sharing Success through charitable giving, volunteerism, and sponsorships. Duncan-Parnell’s Sharing Success program focuses on philanthropic efforts to build lifelong relationships built on value and proudly supports Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte in building homes to strengthen families and communities.
