How the Trimble Robotic Total Station Helped one NASCAR Driver Break The Guinness World Record
Joey Logano has taken his need for speed to new heights or in this case - new records. The 2018NASCAR Cup Series Champion decided to take on the challenge of beating the Guinness World Record for the World's Longest Hot Wheels Track. In November 2019, Logano and team made an attempt, or several hundred attempts at breaking this record and after trials and tribulations, they successfully broke the record coming in at over 1,941 feet. The track spanned two buildings at Logano's facility with a baseline at each.
In order to successfully break a Guinness World Record, you truly need a full team to make it happen. Part of Joey's team included an expert witness (required by Guinness World Record) to be on site for credibility and validity of the record they were trying to break. We were able to catch up with Stephen Dyer, Survey Manager at the Isaacs Group and long time customer of Duncan-Parnell, who had the privilege to be the expert witness during this exciting day. He explained how his responsibility was to measure the points exactly to confirm distance and speed throughout the course of the event. Steve used the Trimble S6 Robotic Total Station to collect data successfully as he has trusted Trimble products for over 20 years. He explains, "In my mind, the only Robotic Total Station is Trimble. The accuracy is without question." Throughout the eight hours of trying to break the record, the S6 was able to capture 4,000 shots.
Stephen Dyer is a licensed surveyor in four states - NC, SC, TN, VA and currently surveying at the Issacs Group. He owns seven Trimble Robotic Total Stations, GPS Receivers and has ample experience using Trimble Business Center. Click here to view the YouTube documentary chronicling his victory.
